NIOS is an “Open School” designed to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners up to the pre-degree level. It began as a project with flexible learning options under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 1979. In 1986, the National Policy on Education recommended strengthening the Open School System to offer open learning facilities across India at the secondary level, with its own curriculum and examination system.
Bishnupur Heritage School is a Study Centre of NIOS offering English, Hindi, and Bengali mediums for Secondary (Class X) and Senior Secondary (Class XII).
